en > Tours from wroclaw > Wambierzyce and Skull Chapel Tour

Let us take you to Wambierzyce, a frequently visited and popular pilgrimage site in southern part of Poland, often called the "Silesian Jerusalem". The city is located around 100 kilometers south - east from Wroclaw. We will visit the Baroque-style basilica, which was built between 1715–1723. From the Main Market Square to the Basilica lead 57 steps of symbolic meaning: 9 (number of choirs of angels) + 33 (age of Jesus at the time of the crucifixion) + 15 (age of Mary at the moment of conception of Christ). In 1980 Pope John Paul II gave the title of Queen of Families to the Madonna of Wambierzyce. Except the well known Basilica, there is a calvary with 100 chapels and 12 gates.

After visiting Wambierzyce, we will go for around 40 minutes ride to town Kudowa – Zdroj and stop there to visit the Baroque-style Chapel of Skulls, built in 1776 by Waclaw Tomaszek - the local parish priest. The walls and the ceiling of the chapel are lined with 3 thousand skulls and human bones of people who died during the Thirty Years’ War, three Silesian Wars and victims of epidemics of infectious diseases.
